Air Conditioning Explained

Modern air conditioning units are designed with energy efficiency in mind, utilising advanced technologies to minimise energy consumption.

Reduced Energy Bills: By effectively regulating temperature, air conditioning can reduce the reliance on less efficient heating and cooling methods, leading to lower energy bills.

Long-Term Investment: Investing in a quality air conditioning system is a long-term investment in your comfort, health, and property value.

In summary, air conditioning offers a comprehensive climate control solution, providing numerous benefits for your health, comfort, and well-being. From cooling relief in the summer to efficient heating in the winter, and crucial dehumidification, modern air conditioning is a valuable asset for any home or business.

  • Breathe Easy, Live Comfortably: The Benefits of Modern Air Conditioning Systems offer far more than just a respite from sweltering summer heat. They are versatile climate control solutions designed to enhance your comfort and well-being year-round. Here's a breakdown of the key benefits:

Cooling Comfort When You Need It:

Beat the Heat: In the UK's increasingly unpredictable summers, air conditioning provides a consistent, comfortable indoor temperature, preventing overheating and heatstroke, particularly vital for vulnerable individuals.

Improved Sleep: A cool bedroom promotes deeper, more restful sleep, leading to increased energy and productivity.

Enhanced Productivity: A comfortable working environment boosts concentration and efficiency, whether you're working from home or in an office.

    Warmth and Efficiency in Winter:

Efficient Heating, Precise Temperature Control: With Modern Air Conditioning Systems you can enjoy consistent and accurate temperature settings, eliminating the fluctuations often experienced with traditional radiators, providing a comfortable and cost-effective warmth.

    Dehumidification for Health and Comfort:

Reduced Humidity: High humidity levels can lead to discomfort, mould growth, and exacerbate respiratory problems. Air conditioning units effectively remove excess moisture from the air, creating a healthier and more comfortable environment.

Allergy Relief: By reducing humidity, air conditioning helps to control dust mites and mould, common allergens that trigger respiratory issues.

Protection Against Damp: Removing moisture from the air helps to protect your furniture, electronics, and building structure from the damaging effects of dampness.

    Fan-Only Mode for Air Circulation:

Energy-Efficient Airflow: In milder weather, the fan-only mode circulates air within your home, creating a refreshing breeze without the need for cooling or heating.

Improved Air Quality: Air circulation helps to distribute filtered air, reducing stagnant air and improving overall indoor air quality.

Health Benefits, Especially for Asthma Sufferers:

Reduced Asthma Triggers: By filtering out dust, pollen, and other airborne irritants, air conditioning significantly reduces the triggers that can exacerbate asthma symptoms.

Controlled Humidity: Maintaining optimal humidity levels is crucial for asthma sufferers, as dry air can irritate airways, and humid air can promote mould and dust mite growth.

Consistent Temperature: Sudden temperature changes can trigger asthma attacks. Air conditioning provides a stable and comfortable indoor climate, minimising these risks.

  • There are many manufacturers, models, features and types of Air Conditioning systems. At Smart Air Solutions we install all leading brands, including: Daikin, Fujitsu, Mitsubishi, Panasonic, Samsung, LG, Midea and many more.

Systems are referred to as Split or Multi-Split and come in various configurations such as Wall Mounted, Floor Mounted, Ceiling Mounted, Ducted and Zoned.

Split Systems are systems that have an Outdoor Unit (Condenser) and an Indoor Unit. It is the Indoor Unit that can be Wall Mounted, Floor Mounted, Ceiling Mounted or Ducted. In the Split configuration there is one system comprising of the Indoor and Outdoor Units that deliver Air Conditioning to the one room that the Indoor Unit is installed. The Indoor and Outdoor Units are connected together via lagged copper pipes and a cable carrying power and data.

In the Multi-Split configuration, the Outdoor Unit is generally larger and it connects to up to 5 Indoor Units that are placed in rooms around the home. Each Indoor Unit operates individually and is connected via its own set of pipes and cables to the Outdoor Unit.

The Indoor Units in both the Split and Multi-Split Systems can be Wall, Floor, Ceiling or Ducted.

Wall Mounted Units are usually mounted toward the top of the room wall and circulate air by an internal fan, moving vanes provide air direction. The fan speed can be controlled as well as the vane movement. The temperature can be controlled via a remote control, wall mounted controller or and app on a mobile device. The Indoor Unit has the following modes, Cool, Heat, Dehumidify and Fan Only. These modes make Air Conditioning the perfect choice for all year round use.

Floor Mounted Units are mounted on the wall close to the floor, they have the same four modes as the Wall Mounted Systems, but are mounted lower than the Wall Mounted Units.

Ceiling Units are either mounted on the ceiling or into a false ceiling or ceiling void. They operate and are connected in the same way as the Wall Mounted Units.

Ducted Units are usually mounted in a void, such as a loft, they connect to the Outdoor Unit in the same way as the Wall and Floor Mounted units. They provide air to a room via Ducting connected to Grilles or Vents.

Ducted Units can have Zoning controls fitted that allows the Indoor Unit to supply air at different temperatures to multiple rooms. Each room can have its own controller, allowing each room to have a different temperature set.

  • Air Conditioning can be installed in virtually any room in the home. Consideration must be given to the routing of the pipes and cable which connects the Indoor Unit to the Outdoor Unit.

Wall, Floor and Ceiling mounted units lend themselves well to most rooms in the home as well as Conservatories, Garden Rooms, Gyms, Man Caves, Offices etc.

Ducted units are ideal for bedrooms where the Indoor unit is placed in the loft and the rooms are fed via ducting to grilles in each room. The addition of a Zoning unit allows individual temperature control for each bedroom.

Ducting can be designed into new builds / extensions, allowing the Indoor unit to be located in a suitable void and connected to the grilles / vents which may be located in walls or ceilings.

Air conditioning is the perfect solution for most Garden Rooms as it not only provides Cool air in the Summer but can also be used to Heat these rooms during the Winter months. This enables the Outdoor rooms to be used all year round with the customer enjoying the perfect climate. The Dehumidify setting also helps reduce moisture which can be found in Outdoor rooms due to the external doors being open and closed more frequently than when indoors.
